Newton Folk Music

About Us

We are an informal collection of people who like to hang out to sing and play folk music. The group, originally founded on Meetup.com and organized by Elliot Frank and Daniel Ozick, has been meeting continuously every other Sunday afternoon from 4–6 pm since 2018 somewhere in or near Newton, MA. Some of us sing; others play instruments; many do both. Join our mailing list to find out when and where we’re meeting and to RSVP. We will not share your email with anyone else, and you can always ask to be removed from the list.

Going around the circle, which is typically 6 to 12 people, we each take a turn suggesting a song, and usually leading it. (You can always pass, of course, and the co-organizers are here to help.) We sometimes use Rise Up Singing as a source, especially for simple 3-chord tunes, so bring that book along if you have it. If you’d like to lead a song more complex in chord structure that’s new to us, please bring multiple copies of printed music for the group. (We prefer to have lyrics with chord notations throughout the song or full sheet music.)

We sing both traditional and more contemporary songs; check out our previous repertoire here. If you’re new to the group, this can help you get a sense of what we do by noting what’s “popular.” You can also listen to the remote pandemic recordings we made in 2020.
